Disney's (NYSE:DIS) Future Bright in Robert Iger's Hands

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

It wasn't an easy gig to walk into after the tumultuous relationship between former Disney (NYSE:DIS) CEO Michael Eisner ended with the company, and into that vacuum of uncertainty entered newly crowned CEO Robert Iger.

Even if the transition period had been smooth, just the heritage Disney represents would be a hard enough challenge for anyone stepping into the CEO position. But Iger has not only handled it well, he has excelled, and positioned Disney for a strong move years into the future.

If you do nothing else but take note of the acquisition of Pixar animation studios and Marvel, the publisher of comic books and movie studio, you have the type of deals which will benefit the company for a long time.

Just the seemingly endless number of major and minor characters many people are familiar with from Marvel could be used for any number of media platforms to create movies, games, or Internet Web sites around them.

If you go through the performance of anyone at the level Rober Iger operates at, with the many creative outlets under his guidance, you'll always be able to find something that needs improvement, and if you didn't there would be something wrong, as none of us every arrive.

For example, there's a lot of room for growth and improvement on the movie and Internet side of Disney, and that's not something that needs to be taken as a negative, but a tremendous opportunity going forward.

If Disney can perform strongly with some weaker divisions, it gives them a lot of room for growth when they get a handle on them and become successful, which they ultimately should.

One of the greatest attributes of Iger in an entertainment world is the lack of a need to show his considerable abilities and strengths, an important part of who he is in an industry notorious for its out-sized egos and belief the world centers around them.

He has proved he can work with talented creative types, and that's indispensable at an entertainment and media company like Disney is.

With most of the pieces seemingly in place, not its a matter of vision, strategy and operations, and if Iger can get those working together smoothly, the skies the limit as to how high Disney can soar.

If they can keep Iger at the helm, the company is poised for many solid years of performance which its customers and shareholders will appreciate.
