Melanie is currently an active freelance writer, Business Owner and consultant to Registered Investment Advisors and Hedge Funds. She’s a strong proponent of performance driven fee-based money management services. She beleives Independent Investment Advisors offering fee services tend to provide unbiased and client driven services, removing the conflict of interest from the equation. Melanie advocates Investor education. The more educated and informed an investor the more successfull.
Her career in the financial services sector spans 20 + years where she’s worked extensively with both retail and institutional clients. In late 2005 Melanie joined Iron Horse Capital Advisors a Hedge Fund as Director of Marketing. From 1996 – 2005 Melanie worked for TD Waterhouse where she headed the Midwest and West Coast Institutional Sales teams. During her tenure she managed the division’s strategic initiatives, growing her perspective regions to more than $17 billion in assets. She consistently earned top ranks in sales and management bringing revenues, profits and market share to new heights. In addition she severed on the Executive Management Team and Executive Compliance Committee.
Prior to TD Waterhouse Melanie was a Senior Investment Specialist with Charles Schwab & Company from 1990 - 1996. Before joining Charles Schwab she spent more than 5 years with Merrill Lynch where she worked in a four man partnership delivering individual and institutional portfolio management services and 3 years with Dean Witter now Morgan Stanley. While with Merrill and Dean Witter, she learned the intricacies of portfolio management and financial planning, including asset allocation, retirement planning, estate and charitable giving planning and income tax planning. She recognized early on that managing a client’s portfolio required extensive research and proven a strategy to be successful. As a result she began introducing her clients to Third Party Managers. Melanie was the first Dean Witter investment consultant to introduce a third party money manager; a practice later adopted firm- wide by other consultants.
Melanie earned her BS in Finance from t he University of Houston. She became a licensed financial advisor in 1980 holding the Series 7 and 63. She later acquired the Series 8.
