Central Appalachian

Central Appalachian Meaning:
In commodity market terminology, Central Appalachian refers to a particular type of coal from the Central Appalachian coal fields with minimum specifications of Btu and maximum components of ash, sulfur, moisture, volatile matter, grindability and sizing. This type of coal is deliverable on Central Appalachian Coal Futures contracts traded at the New York Mercantile Exchange, NYMEX.

Central Appalachian Example:
The Central Appalachian Coal Futures contracts are for 1,550 tons per unit and are traded by open outcry. Futures contracts are offered for every month and are quoted in U.S. Dollars and cents with a minimum fluctuation of $0.01 per ton or $15.50 per contract. The symbol for Central Appalachian Coal Futures is QL.
