In commodity market terminology, Lean Hogs refers to industrially-raised pigs or hogs. These animals are slaughtered to obtain pork meat and are the main source of pork meat sold in the United States.
Lean Hog futures trade on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and on the CME Groupís electronic Globex trading platform. The contract is for 40,000 pounds or 18 metric tons of barrow and gilt Hog carcasses. Quotes are in U.S. Dollars with a minimum fluctuation of $10 per contract. The Lean Hogs trading symbol is LH.
