Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) was founded by brothers Paul and Joseph Gavin in 1928, named at its inception Galvin Manufacturing Corporation. Two years later the name was changed to Motorola.
Now the company offers products related to mobile communications across the globe. It focuses primarily on three sectors: Mobile Devices, Home and Networks Mobility, and Enterprise Mobility Solutions.
Among their many products are digital entertainment devices, voice and data communications systems, wireless handsets and wireless accessories, among a number of others.
Acquisitions over the last several years include the AJAR software platform from British company TTP Communications and Symbol Technologies.
Motorola became a public company in 1943, when it made its first stock offering.
The company is based in Schaumburg, Illinois.
