U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) roots are traced back to 1863 or 1864 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with its other lineage coming from the United States National Bank of Portland, which was founded in 1891.

Some major acquisitions have been Downey Savings & Loan Assn FA, Pomona First Fed Bk & Tr, the mutual fund administration and accounting servicing division of Fiduciary Management, Inc., the bond trustee business of First Citizens Bank, the Nevada banking operations of BB&T Corp., and nine subsidiary banks from the FDIC.
U.S. Bancorp had almost 2,800 branches and over 5,100 ATMS as of 2009.
